Over the Hills and Far Away

Hello again!

Sorry for the glare in this photo…stupid flash! This is a painting I finished for my cousin, Heather. Her color choices were purple and orange, which I love. I wanted those colors to show, but I didn’t want them to be too overwhelming….and this was the result. I named this painting “Over the Hills and Far Away” after the great Led Zeppelin song.

“Many have I loved – Many times been bitten
Many times I’ve gazed along the open road.

Many times I’ve lied – Many times I’ve listened
Many times I’ve wondered how much there is to know.

Many dreams come true and some have silver linings
I live for my dream and a pocketful of gold.”

Thanks!

Intersection of the Timeless Moment

Hi friends,

I recently finished this painting for a customer in California. He wanted a large version of my painting “Through Painted Glass.” I named this painting “The Intersection of the Timeless Moment” after the T.S. Eliot poem, Little Gidding. He said:

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, remembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.
Quick now, here, now, always—
A condition of complete simplicity
(Costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one.”

Across the Universe

“Sounds of laughter, shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
inciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on…Across the Universe.

Jai Guru Deva om…nothing’s gonna change my world.”

I absolutely love this song. I think it is practically perfect. So many Beatles lyrics use imagery which makes them so much fun to paint. This painting reminded me so much of these lyrics so naturally I named it “Across the Universe.”

I actually learned something new while working on this project for my cousin, Ben. “Jai Guru Deva” means, “I give thanks to the heavenly teacher.” The “om” on the end represents the original vibration that occured at the time of creation. Most people would associate this with the noise you make when you meditate (ohhhhmmmm). It is believed to be the natural vibration of the universe.

I actually just recently bought a bag in Boulder, CO with the om symbol on the front: ॐ. To me, it is incredibly peaceful.

Paint It Black

“I see a red door and I want it painted black. No colors anymore, I want them to turn black.”

Hello!

This is 1 of 3 paintings in a series titled Paint it Black. I’ve always been fascinated by the lyrics to this great Rolling Stones classic. They are so dark yet contain pockets of hope throughout. Life isn’t perfect, but in the end there are little pops of color in every situation. Just keep an open mind and a positive attitude.

“If I look hard enough into the setting sun, my love will laugh with me before the morning comes.”
Below are the other 2 paintings. Thanks for reading!

Rock and Roll Never Forgets

Hello!

I wanted to share my new favorite painting with you. I titled this one “Rock and Roll Never Forgets” after the Bob Seger song (aka The Great One). I apologize for the slight glare on the top of the painting- it should be all black. Unfortunately the camera does not do it justice. I wanted this piece to look a bit like graffiti. I love that it is messy and dark. This painting is currently hanging in Webster Wine Bar in Lincoln Park (among many other A Feneis paintings). I am so pleased to have been able to hang my work there. They have been amazing to work with!

My buddy, Alex

Hello!

My friend, Alicia, sent me an email saying how much she enjoyed the painting “With It Brings New Light” so I decided to do my first replica. I painted this for her son, Alex, who also happens to be one of my favorite kids in the world. So it had to be perfect! I wanted to give it a little twist for Alex, so I changed out the colors to more blue tones (Alicia’s favorite). I love how vibrant the background blue is. It looks great in sunlight.

Now Alex will always know how much his Aunt Anna loves him!

Stones on a Mountain

Greetings friends!

This is a painting I did for my friend, Dan Wagner, who is also the man behind building this site. He requested a painting that represented “the Rolling Stones playing a concert on top of a mountain.” I thought to myself, how the crap am I going to paint that? Well, once I got going, it was easy to imagine.

If there was one thing I knew for certain, it was that the Rolling Stones would not be playing on any ordinary mountain. The black, green, and yellow drips represent the mountains that I envisioned. I wanted them to be darker and with a certain heaviness to them, representing the tumultuous journey the Stones have taken over the years. I wanted the background to be chaotic and colorful, similar to their music, Keith Richard’s incredible knack for rhythm, and Mick Jagger’s flare for the dramatic. All in all, I wanted this painting to scream ”Rock ‘n Roll!” and I think I came pretty close to accomplishing that.

With It Brings New Light

Hello!
As some of you may know, my sweet little Ruby has been sick with the stomach flu for the past couple days. While this royally sucks hard, it has given me some time to release some pent up creativity I’ve been storing over the holidays.

A few weeks back, an old classmate of mine sent over a link to an artist she said my work resembled. While I think she gave me WAY too much credit, I did love the style that the artist used. So, I decided to try it out with my own little twist. Below is the result.

Also, I’ve been accepted into 2 new shows. I’ll post the paintings once I actually have time to finish them. Lastly, if you remember a while back my Dad and I were a part of a show titled “Red” in Cincinnati. I’m happy to report that both of our paintings sold. Hooray!

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here is the second painting I did for the “Red” themed art show. I really like how this one turned out. I wanted it to be a bit darker and I feel like I accomplished that. I apologize because you can see a little bit of the floor on the bottom of the picture. I also managed to spray paint all over that floor in the process. Enjoy!

A Very Cosmic Christmas

Hello!

I’ve been painting up a storm lately, if you can’t tell. I’m loving these new toys and techniques that I’m discovering, so you’ll probably see a new trend in style. I’m sure I’ll figure something new out pretty soon and then you’ll see another trend. And so on…
There is this little coffee house in Cincinnati, located next door to my Dad’s art studio, where they hang a bunch of art and sell all kinds of awesome work from local artists (pretty much my dream job). My Dad’s art has been in there for a while now, which is so great. They are having a display with the theme “Red” coming up fairly soon, so considering I have a love affair with the color red, I thought I would give it a shot. Here is the first painting I completed. Who knows if this is one I will submit, but I love the way it turned out. Stay tuned for more red paintings!
